The Poetry Caravan is a volunteer organization of 35 Westchester poets who read their work at hospitals, senior centers, assisted living facilities, shelters, jails and other sites.

“The Caravan’s mission is to bring poetry to the community and foster the creativity of all participants,” Handel, manager of the Poetry Caravan, said in a statement.

Handel will read her poem, “Tugboat Warrior”. She will be joined by the following poets who will also read original selections:

  • Llyn Clague, of Hastings, will read “The I in India”
  • Lisa Fleck Dondiego, of Ossining, will read “A Sea Change”
  • Charlotte Walsh, of North White Plains, will read “Traveling Between Storms”
  • Amelia Winkler, of Mamaroneck, will read “Waking at Night”

“We are excited to work with such a talented group of local artists who do such important work in our community and beyond,” Elizabeth Bermel, executive director of the Scarsdale Library, said in a statement. “The Library is proud to co-sponsor these local writers. We hope that this will be the first of many events we will have the pleasure of working on together.”

The readings will be followed by a question and answer session and a book signing. The Scarsdale Library is on 54 Olmstead Road.
