Members of the group, which worked with Jim Sutton of the Bronx River Parkway Reservation Conservancy, cleaned up loose branches and tree limbs, picked up trash and cut deadly vines off trees.
“When people look at the storm damage in the parkland and see vines killing off otherwise-healthy trees, they might say, ‘Someone should do something about that.’ But the truth is, we are all that someone," Laurie Puhn Feinstein, co-chair of the event, said in a statement. "Cleaning up our own community means we are being responsible citizens. I could not have been prouder of our members at the JLCW and many others in our community for participating in the cleanup with energy and spirit. "
The event was open to the public and was attended by volunteers from political organizations, environmental groups and area residents.
The Reservation is a prominent natural feature along the 12.5-mile stretch from the Bronx border to Kensico Dam. It provides green space, passing through densely populated urban areas such as Yonkers, Mount Vernon and White Plains, as well as the hamlets, villages and towns of Bronxville, Tuckahoe, Crestwood, Eastchester, Scarsdale, and Hartsdale.
“Pitch in for Parks” is the largest single-day volunteer activity of the year for Westchester County Parks.
