For more than a year, Scott “Scotty” Clark, a popular volunteer lacrosse coach, has battled a rare form of appendix cancer that recently rendered him unable to work. In response, several of his supporters have established a “GoFundMe” fundraising campaign to help him offset medical costs.
“Scott Clark and the entire Clark family, exemplify all that a community could ask for of their members,” Friends of Scott Clark wrote on the fundraising page. “Great friends, neighbors, coaches, teammates and tireless contributors of their time and effort to multiple organizations throughout the town of Eastchester and other Westchester communities.”
A longtime Eastchester resident that was raised in Yonkers, Clark has been a youth coach in Eastchester, Tuckahoe and Scarsdale as a volunteer. While undergoing chemotherapy and other treatments over the past year, he has continued to work several jobs to support his wife and three children.
“Although Scott's fate is uncertain at this time, his family's mounting financial burdens are,” they wrote. “No one likes to think of the nightmare of the family breadwinner being physically unable to provide for unsurmountable expenses, such as medical, mortgage, utilities, college tuitions, children's activities, and dozens of other typical, yet costly, expenses.
“We ask that you find it in your heart to help the Clark's tread water while Scott is unable to assist. We can assure you that they would, and have on many occasions, done for others during their times of need.”
