The annual rankings by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation utilize a number of data sources, including community safety, income, employment, education, air and water quality and quality of care, according to the website.
All four of the local counties were listed in the top 10 out of New York state's more than 60 counties. The highest ranked local counties were Putnam and Westchester, which ranked as numbers two and three, respectively.
Dutchess and Rockland also were ranked back-to-back with Dutchess listed at No. 7 and Rockland listed at No. 8.
