Optimum viewing time is expected to be around midnight, provided skies are clear and not cloudy, and the Northern Lights could be as visible as early as 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies overnight into Wednesday after clouds prevailed during much of the late afternoon Tuesday.

Northern Lights, a natural phenomenon, paints the night sky with vivid color. They occur much more frequently in the far north.
