Having written songs for more than 20 years, her ideas come from everywhere -- a thought, a perplexing situation, a riff she hears, or maybe even a catchy lyric. Once she hears or thinks of something that sparks her imagination, Rothberg will record it into her dictation machine and flesh it out "until it makes me smile or cry," she said.
Her new album expresses sexual innuendo, and the title track touches on that.
"Lyrically it can mean anything from money to acceptance to love being a motive even if one is doing it subconsciously," she said.
In addition to writing all her own music, she also plays all of the instruments on the new album, which was recorded at Off White Trash Studios with producer/ engineer Lyle Puente.
"I was free to explore decades of different genres and sounds," Rothberg said.
When asked what inspired her during her years growing up in Scarsdale, Rothberg said with a laugh, "There's a music scene in Westchester? Well there's a cool late night cabbie named Tom keeping rock alive."
Many of her songs have deep meaning to her, including "Hollywood Ending," the last track on the album.
"It's a big one, because I wrote the entire thing in one 20 minute sitting. It flowed straight from my subconscious," she said.
Rothberg said she wants people to happily have her solos and melodies stuck in their heads.
