The nonprofit said it helps provide resources and referrals for parents, child care providers, employers and community organizations.
The annual fundraiser started just before Thanksgiving and will end on #GivingTuesday, Nov. 29.
The bank has promised to donate $1 -- for up to a total of $2,500 -- every time someone shares, comments on or retweets specified council or TD Bank Facebook and Twitter posts.
The money will be used to purchase “Brain-Building Kits” for child-care providers who serve children from low-income families in Westchester.
The $300 kits are filled with items critical to early brain growth -- books, educational math toys, building blocks, art supplies, instruments, science tools, dress-up pieces, among other things.
According to the council, children who have access to these materials are “more likely to enter kindergarten ready to learn, move grade to grade on time, avoid risky behavior, graduate high school, earn good wages, and be healthy as adults.”
The council hopes to raise $18,000 on #GivingTuesday and to distribute 60 kits to child care providers around the county
This could, it says, help more than 1,000 children "reach their potential."
Said the council’s executive director, Kathy Halas: “We believe that every child deserves the same opportunities to succeed, no matter the circumstances of their birth.”
The kits, she added, are “likely to improve their futures and ours.”
Halas said her organization was “very grateful to TD Bank for helping us expand our visibility and for their financial support.”
On Wednesday, Nov. 30, the bank will host a free, casual event to, it said, “celebrate the community’s generosity.”
Friends and supporters of the council are being invited to bring a guest to meet, network, and share in the spirit of the season from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at TD Bank, 285 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains.
