This year, the Nature Center has designed a program focused on enabling event participants to fully explore, discover, and connect with the natural world.
Spend the day at Greenburgh Nature Center’s 33-acre urban oasis to kick off Earth Week, April 17 to 24, and the spring season. Participants can learn about composting, hydroponics, and the importance of bees. They can also volunteer to help renew the Nature Center grounds through invasives removal, trail work, and flower planting.
Visitors will hear about green energy options with Green Mountain Energy and solarizing homes and businesses from SolarCity.
Refreshments will be available for purchase through California Pizza Kitchen. Local Hudson Valley-based band, Solar Punch, will be performing original music using solar-powered instruments and provide samples of food prepared using solar cooking technology.
In partnership with Sustainable Westchester and Green Ossining, Greenburgh Nature Center is offering a variety of composters and rain barrels for advanced purchase to help people get started on composting at home.
Join Town of Greenburgh Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Community Development and Conservation (CD&C) Aaron Schmidt, State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins, and fellow community members in a tree planting ceremony to commemorate Arbor Day as an expression of the Nature Center’s commitment to supporting the Town of Greenburgh’s membership as a Tree City USA.
“Earth Day is a chance for us to join together as a community to deepen our understanding, ability, and commitment to live more gently on the Earth,” says Anne Jaffe-Holmes, Greenburgh Nature Center’s director of Conservation and Sustainability Education. “We are looking forward to teaching people how to care for the Earth.”
Greenburgh Nature Center’s Earth Day and Arbor Day Celebration is a free event and open to all.
