This program was recognized by WRJ for it's innovation and was one of only 10 Sisterhoods around the country that was chosen for financial support. It was chosen for its ability to: create caring communities, promote Reform Jewish values, give more synagogue members the opportunity to do acts of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world).
“At a time when discriminatory acts against Jews are once again on the rise in Europe, we feel particularly blessed to be able to do this sacred justice work in collaboration with our generous funders at the Women for Reform Judaism. Our tradition teaches us that one mitzvah leads to another, and so we expect that this work will inspire our community and the one in Scotland to reach out to others in need in the months and years ahead” said Rabbi Jeffrey Brown.
Concerned Individuals in Scotland are developing a program to reduce anti-Semitism through education. The goal is to create educational kids with ritual objects.
The Women of SSTTE have gotten involved in the project by inviting all members in the community to participate in sending donations that will ultimately help to create the educational kits.
"It is not often that we get an opportunity to help fight anti-Semitism on such a personal level. We have the opportunity to impact thousands of young people and their communities," said Beth Quinn, Women of SSTTE co-president.
A representative, Joe Goldblatt will be coming directly from Scotland on Aug. 1 to present the grant to the Women of SSTTE at a luncheon. All are welcome to attend with lunch costing $10 per person. RSVP to ssttewomen@sste.org. More information and updates can be found at this link.
