Westchester Swimmer To Compete Against Gold Medalists At National Championship
One of Westchester finest student-athletes is taking her talents to California, where she will compete in the pool as a member the USA Swimming National Junior Team against some of America's best. Pelham Memorial High School senior Kate Douglass, a member of the Chelsea Piers Aquatic Club, was one of 35 women chosen to join the national team, which is scheduled to compete at the National Championships in Irvine, California next month. One of Westchester’s finest amateur swimmers is taking his talents to the Aloha State. New Rochelle High School senior Michael Lawson, who became a two-time state champion this year, announced his intention to head to Hawaii following graduation, where he will take to the pool at the University of Hawaii. An all-American, Lawson has competed in the New York State High School Swimming Championships for four years in a row as part of the New Rochelle-Bronxville joint swim team, claiming his latest championship earlier this year. Rye Swimmers Win Westchester/Fairfield League Title, Place At States
The Rye Y Wave Ryeders capped off a winning season on March 18, placing 4th overall out of 40 swim teams at the YMCA State Championships in Buffalo. The Rye team racked up its highest point total ever at the State meet and brought home several individual and team awards. Individual state champions are: Talya Appelbaum, Nate Baumstark, Maeve Bruton, Audrey Li and Megan Tiedemann.
