Rededication To Be Held For Restored Eagle Sign In Westchester
Months after vandals felled an iconic eagle sign at a Northern Westchester intersection, a rededication ceremony will soon be held to celebrate its restoration. A rededication event for the North Castle Eagle at the intersection of Route 22 and Route 128 will be held on Sunday, June 2 at 2 p.m. The event comes months after the sign was discovered to have fallen on Monday morning, Dec. 11. NY Awards $500K To Restore 'Critical' Historical Site In Westchester County
A municipality in Westchester County has been given half a million dollars to restore a historical site that once played a crucial role during the Revolutionary War. The town of Greenburgh has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the state of New York to restore the Odell House Rochambeau Headquarters at 425 Ridge Rd., according to an announcement by Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner from Sunday, Dec. 18. State Lends Support To Save Historic Carousel At Rye Playland
The hand-carved horses at the historic carousel at Rye Playland will ride again. Two years ago, a fire broke out at the 102-year-old carousel, leaving the structure and horses with heavy damage, putting the future of the famous ride into question. The carousel suffered water damage, as well as damage to the roof and other components; however, officials have been hopeful of reopening the ride by 2020. The New York State Regional Economic Development Council has officially awarded Westchester County with almost $800,000 in grants to be used primarily for three major projects: Restoration of the Playland Carousel Updating the Bronx River Watershed Management Plan Westchester-Putnam Workforce Development Board The grants will allocate $450,000 to the restoration of the Playland Carousel, which was completed in 1928 and damaged in a fire in the summer of 2017. After years of discussion, debate and discourse, efforts to restore the once vibrant Memorial Field in Mount Vernon have begun in earnest. Earlier this year, Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas announced a “two-prong” approach to reopen the once vibrant recreation hub that has laid in ruins for the better part of a decade. Joined by state legislators, local lawmakers and Miller House advocates, Westchester County Executive George Latimer announced on Thursday, April 26 county plans to refurbish and upgrade the historic Elijah Miller House site in North White Plains.
