Massive Test Of Emergency Alert System Set For This Week: Here's When, What To Know Now

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) this week. The national test will consist of two portions, testing Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) and Emergency Alert System (EAS) capabilities. Gov. Kathy Hochul visited the hardest-hit Hudson Valley county to survey damage after last week's winter storm left thousands of homes without power. Residents Living In Building Illegally Escape Fire At Westchester Home
Residents living illegally in a building without any working utilities were able to escape without injury when a fire broke out in the basement area of a Yonkers home, the Yonkers Fire Department said. The fire, at 51 Victor Street, was reported to the Yonkers Fire Department around 3 a.m. Tuesday, said Assistant Chief John Bonanno, Firefighters from Battalion 1 arrived within a minute and confirmed there was a working structure fire located in the basement of the two-and-a-half story wood-frame building. An unknown number of residents were displaced in Westchester when a three-alarm fire broke out in a four-story apartment building on a busy Yonkers road. Five firefighters and one resident suffered minor injuries on Monday afternoon, as firefighters were called to a McLean Avenue building shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 14, Yonkers Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Flynn. Two Dogs Rescued, Dozens Displaced After Fire Breaks Out At Apartment Complex In Westchester
Dozens of people have been displaced after a two-alarm fire broke out at an apartment complex in Westchester on Saturday. The blaze at 137 Hawthorne Ave. in Yonkers, a four-story building, began around 2:45 p.m. with first-arriving fire units being met by a large volume of fire from a first-floor apartment, said Daniel P. School In Scarsdale Evacuated Following Written Threat
A written threat forced the evacuation of a Westchester elementary school on Wednesday. The Quaker Ridge Elementary School in Scarsdale was evacuated on Wednesday morning out of precaution, after a threat was found in the building. The nature of the threat was not disclosed by police. Students were temporarily relocated to an off-site location, according to school officials, which is in line with district emergency protocols. Westchester School To Replace Main Gym Floor Following Flooding
One of the gyms at the Bronxville School will be closed for several weeks following the recent flooding that wreaked havoc on the first floor of the building. On Sept. 25, students had an emergency dismissal, when flooded water came pouring into the building, canceling classes and causing damage to several areas of the school. Gov.. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday, March 6 updated New Yorkers on the status of storm recovery operations in the Hudson Valley as a second winter storm is being forecasted to impact New York. A state of emergency has been declared by Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sunday in four Hudson Valley counties: Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Sullivan.
