Rye Recovers With Big Fourth To Beat Yorktown In Battle Of Unbeatens

RYE, N.Y. - For three quarters Friday night in front of a packed house at Rye High School, the football game belonged to the Huskers of Yorktown.

But in the fourth quarter, defending Section 1 champion Rye overcame some previous mistakes (three turnovers, two int's which were returned for scores), and went on to close the game by scoring 21 unanswered points, securing a 31-20 victory in a battle of previously unbeaten teams.

The 3-0 Garnets got three sacks and a key blocked punt from junior LB Mat Bruno, who also threw a TD pass.

Yorktown (2-1) got a pair of TD returns from quarterback/cornerback Jose Boyer, including a spectacular 95-yard interception return for a score, but Rye's defense slowed 'Husker threats Nick Santavicca and Boyer on the ground.
