Rye Carries Momentum Into Game With Roosevelt

RYE, N.Y. -- Rye registered its first win of the 2011 season last Saturday, and did so emphatically. The Garnets handed powerhouse Horace Greeley its first loss of the season, 26-7 behind an excellent defensive effort. Rye limited Greeley’s outstanding quarterback Justin Ciero to a season-low 31 yards rushing. Rye quarterback Jake Meyerson had a big night on the ground, rushing for a team-leading 97 yards. Fullback Joe Simolacaj had a pair of 5-yard scoring runs. The Garnets host winless Roosevelt, 4 p.m., Thursday. A second consecutive win would give Rye added momentum going into ‘The Game,’ next Saturday, Oct. 15, 2 p.m., against archrival Harrison.
