RYE, N.Y. -- Osborn School in Rye was one of the top five schools for English-language learners, according to a series of report cards released by the New York Campaign for Achievement Now.
The NYCAN graded all 4,700 schools in the state based on student performance, subgroup performance, achievement gaps and graduation rates. The grades were calculated using data from the 2010-11 New York State Assessments.
Rye schools scored above average in every category. Rye High School received an "A" grade in student performance, with 96 percent of students scoring proficient or better in reading and math. The state average was 79 percent. The school also received an "A" in graduation rates, with 98.5 percent of students graduating.
Rye Middle School received a "B+" in student performance, with 87 percent of students performing proficient or better, well above the state average of 53.5 percent. The school received a "B" for the performance of low-income, black and Latino students, and a "D+" for its achievement gap.
Rye's elementary schools received a "B+" for student performance. The 87 percent of students who scored proficient or better was higher than the state average of 59.5 percent. The schools received an "A-" grade for the subgroup performance of low-income, black and Latino students, and a "B-" grade for its achievement gap.
