A 28-year-old motorcyclist from New Rochelle and a 79-year-old woman from Armonk were killed, police said on Thursday.

Mount Pleasant Police Chief Paul Oliva said in a news release that the motorcyclist, Giuseppe Scaccia, had just left his job nearby at Optimum and was headed south on Route 9A near Dana Road when he struck a Buick sedan on the passenger side as the sedan turned into an access road to Home Depot.

The car was being driven by Robert Ballengee, 84, of Armonk; his wife, Joanne, was in the passenger seat. The impact spun the car around and threw Scaccia off his motorcycle into the windshield and roof of a white work van stopped in the northbound turning lane of the road, Oliva said.

Both Scaccia and Joanne Ballengee were critically injured and later pronounced dead at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, according to Oliva.

Robert Ballengee was conscious at the scene, Oliva said, but police had no details on his condition on Thursday.

The driver of the work van was Walter Rosendo Solis of White Plains. Police did not say if he was hurt.

Route 9A was closed all Wednesday afternoon as police investigated the cause. of the accident. Oliva said no charges have been filed.

All three vehicles were taken to the town police department's secure impound yard. Westchester County's accident investigation team was assisting. The Hawthorne Fire Department also responded.
