A resident of Purchase called Harrison police to complain that someone was stealing signs from lawns.. It was determined that the suspect fled Purchase in a red Ford truck, police said.
A Harrison police investigation led to the suspect’s vehicle which was parked on Prospect Street in Port Chester. Upon arrival, police observed a male removing political signs from the truck and placing them in a garage.
Charged with larceny was Krzsztof Zawardski of Port Chester.
About 100 political signs as well as signs from a fundraising run/walk were recovered from the truck and the suspect’s garage, police said.. Signs stolen included candidates from all political parties in the Harrison mayor's primary as well as elections for Harrison town justice.
Signs from next month's 11th annual Lindsey Bonistall Foundation 5K race/walk also were taken from yards, police said. That fundraising event takes place at SUNY Purchase on Oct. 25.
"He was taking everybody's signs,'' Harrison Police Chief Anthony Marraccini said on Tuesday. "We're fortunate that a local resident called it in.''
Marraccini said all the stolen signs were returned to various political campaigns and the Bonistall Foundation.
