Man Charged In Rye Jewelry Heist Is Due In Court

RYE, N.Y. – A Queens man charged in the June 13 midday robbery of a jewelry salesman off of Purchase Street in Rye is due Tuesday in Rye City Court after spending the weekend in the Westchester County jail.

According to police, the salesman was leaving Woodrow Jewelers at 21 Purchase St. and returning to his car parked on Locust Avenue when two or three assailants attacked him from behind and took two satchels. Police said the contents of the satchels were valued at $50,000 wholesale.

Christian Aguirre, 26, was arrested by Rye police and arraigned Thursday. Aguirre faces three felony charges including second-degree robbery, second-degree grand larceny and second-degree assault.

Rye Police Commissioner William Connors would not comment on the arrest and said the investigation continues.
