John Watson Scully, 82, Formerly Of Rye

RYE, N.Y. – Former Rye resident John Watson Scully died Friday, Sept 7, of prostate cancer. He was 82. 

Born June 24, 1930, Scully was a member of the American Yacht Club in Rye. He was most recently a resident of Vero Beach, Fla., where he was a member of the Moorings Club and Quail Valley River Club. 

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Marechal Scully; five children, Susan Watson Scully-Cox, Katherine Scully Foote, John Marechal (Emily Ault) Scully, Cynthia Scully (Todd) Doolan and Christopher Palmer Scully; two brothers, Thomas J. Scully, of Jupiter, Fla., and William P. (Marlynn Doble) Scully, of Dorset, Vt., and Vero Beach; and 10 grandchildren. 

A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the American Yacht Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Anglican Church, P.O. Box 6994, Vero Beach, FL 32961, or Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, in honor of Dr. Howard Scher, 353 E. 58th St., New York, NY 10021. Dr. Scher was able to keep Scully alive for almost 18 years after he was diagnosed with cancer.
