Eileen Herbster, 84, Of Rye, Taught In The Rye N.Y. School System

RYE, N.Y. - Eileen Herbster of Rye died Aug. 6. She was 84.

Herbster was born June 7, 1929, in Lebanon, Pa., daughter of George P. and Margaret M. Born. She grew up in Reading, Pa., and attended Central Catholic High School. She received her B.S in education from Kutztown University in Pa. She then went on to earn her Master's Degree in remedial education from the College of New Rochelle in 1976.

She taught in the Rye, N.Y. school system, and Primrose Elementary School in Somers. After retiring from Somers, she volunteered at Resurrection Grade School in Rye, focusing on reading and writing. She was a parishioner and member of the Vicariate at Resurrection Church.

Herbster is survived by her husband, Edward; children, Anne M. Herbster of Rockville, Md., James E (Karen) Herbster of Port Chester, Kathleen M. (John) Wood of Rye, Barbara A. (Dylan) Distaso of Rowayton, Conn., and Christopher G. (Elizabeth)) Herbster of Ormond Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; brother, James P. Born of Reading, Pa.; and two brothers-in-law, Gene (Eileen) Herbster of Andover, Mass., and Monsignor Kenneth Herbster of Montclair, N.J.

Calling hours are Aug. 8 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Graham Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Aug. 9 at the Church of the Resurrection followed by a private interment.
