CAI and Standard Amusements were the two runners-up in a four-year-plus process initiated by County Executive Rob Astorino to find an outside partner for managing and operating Playland. Astorino’s first choice, Sustainable Playland Inc., bowed out of consideration earlier this summer. “Playland’s future needs deciding now,” said Legislator Pete Harckham (D-North Salem), chair of the BOL Labors, Parks, Planning & Housing Committee.
“We cannot let another summer go by without finding a legitimate partner or partners to help actualize a vision for this important county resource. Both CAI and Standard are ready to make a big investment in Playland’s future beginning on day one." The announcement from the BOL Democratic caucus members comes on the heels of County Executive Rob Astorino’s decision this week to push through the County’s Board of Acquisition & Contract two contracts regarding Playland: a $100,000 consulting contract to Biederman Redevelopment Ventures Corp. to analyze operations at Playland’s amusement park and a 10-year deal with American Skating Entertainment Centers LLC to manage and operate the Ice Casino at Playland. “After four years, these two contracts show that the Administration is back to square one in determining a proper future for Playland, while continuing its failed piecemeal strategy for how the park’s components should be operated, and this is not acceptable,” said BOL Majority Leader Catherine Borgia (D-Ossining). “Two potential partners remain interested in managing Playland and it’s time to give them our attention. Let’s see if they represent a tangible opportunity to move forward right away.”
