Rye Youth Council Names 2012 Honorees

RYE, N.Y. – A public school administrator, pastor and a non-for-profit children’s group will be honored by the Rye Youth Council at its annual gala next month for committing to make Rye a better place for children. Joe DeRuvo, the Rev. Dan Love and Kids' S.P.A.C.E. will be recognized Jan. 26 at the Westchester Country Club. Tickets to the gala, which includes cocktails, dinner, dancing and an auction, are available at the Rye Youth Council Office on the second floor at the Rye YMCA, 21 Locust Ave., Rye. DeRuvo began his teaching career at Osborn Elementary School in 1969 before moving on as a permanent assistant to the principal at Rye Middle School. Soon, his title was changed to dean of students and then to assistant principal. During his tenure, DeRuvo has become part of the storytelling workshop for Rye teachers, appeared in school theatrical productions at Osborn Elementary and Rye High School, and joined the Rye Youth Council Players on stage. He joined the Rye Youth Council board as the community representative for Rye Middle School more than 20 years ago and remains in that role today.  Love, a father of three, has been the associate pastor at Rye Presbyterian Church since 1997 and is responsible for the confirmation class in addition to his church duties. For many years, Love was the leader of the middle school youth group and has served on youth mission trips to Honduras, Kentucky, New York City and New Orleans. In the community, Love has coached his children’s sports teams and joined in a number of Rye Youth Council programs.
