RYE, N.Y. The Rye YMCA announced on Thursday that Denise Woodin will replace long-time Rye resident and new Rye Arts Center Executive Director Helen Gates as the YMCA's new director of community impact and social responsibility.
The YMCA's top brass was impressed with Woodin's extensive experience in the field of community outreach. Most recently, Woodin partnered with the YMCA as the senior director of resource development for United Way Westchester, but has previously worked with volunteers and community leaders in places such as Scarsdale, New Rochelle, Larchmont and Pelham to raise awareness and funds.
Woodin, who has a master's degree in urban planning from New York City's Hunter College, has also coordinated public involvement campaigns for transportation and environmental projects while working at Helen Neuhaus & Associates, a consulting agency in Manhattan.
"Denises experience, educational background and enthusiasm for the YMCAs mission make her a wonderful addition to the Y family," said Executive Director Gregg Howells.
As director of community impact and social responsibility, Woodin will oversee the Rye YMCA's community initiatives, including Safe Routes to School, Edible Gardens and Complete Streets, to name a few.
