Rye Weighs In on State of the Union Hopes

RYE, N.Y. - Rye and Port Chester residents weighed in on what they hope President Barack Obama will discuss Tuesday night in his third State of the Union address.

"As a senior citizen, I basically want to hear him talk about healthcare," Rye shopper Mae Williams said. "I think that's the issue on everybody's mind."

Health care wasn't the only issue shoppers wanted to hear the president address.

"I'd especially like to see him talk about immigration," Peruvian immigrant Jose R. Lagos said. "When he ran he promised to solve the issue and I haven't seen it yet. I'd at least like to see him make an effort."

People including Port Chester resident Eric Barbour said the president will have a difficult time accomplishing whatever he addresses due to the partisan split.

"I'd like to see him create more jobs," Barbour said outside the A&P in Rye Brook. "Hopefully the Republicans don't hold him back."

Rye Brook resident Joel Silverman said the president's address won't deal with anything substantial.

"I don't have any hope he'll say anything of interest," Silverman said.
