The session, which is to be presided over by state Supreme Court Justice Alan Schienkman, aims to settle a dispute that arose between the two villages after Rye Brook officials filed a suit against Port Chester claiming Port Chester’s decision to lay off its paid firefighters earlier this year constituted a breach of contract, according to

Port Chester Mayor Dennis Pilla told that the process and the village were “chugging along” during an Aug. 1 meeting of the village Board of Trustees, according to, which reported that Pilla’s additional comments at the meeting included a statement about the wisdom of moving the suit to mediation.
