Jose Ramirez, 24, was traveling north on I-95 near the intersection of Interstate 287 at approximately 90 mph on Feb. 28 last year. Ramirez slammed into a stationary DOT truck, causing it to flip over. The driver of the DOT truck sustained serious injuries, the district attorney said.
Kellman Villa-Santos, a passenger in Ramirez' vehicle, died as a result of his injuries. Emmanuel Gonzalez, the backseat passenger, suffered a traumatic brain injury, paralysis, loss of memory and a host of other injuries as a result of the accident, the district attorney said.
Ramirez was taken to the hospital, where a blood test revealed his blood alcohol content to be .14 percent.
He will be sentenced on Aug. 27 and faces up to 25 years in prison.
