Rye Makes Its Mark On Fashion's Night Out

RYE, N.Y. – Rye is on a mission to become a style mecca for the city-weary suburban crowd with the first Fashion’s Night Out in Rye, spearheaded by Angela Guitard, owner of the chic boutique Angela's.

“I thought it should be something fun that involved the community, not necessarily to shop, but just to get together to have fun, see fashion and meet different people,” Guitard said.

On Sept. 6 from 5 to 9 p.m. more than 15 of the shops and eateries of Purchase Street will participate in Fashion's Night Out, an event that began in New York City in 2009 and soon became a global event with more than 18 countries and 4,500 events in the United States alone.

“I wanted to bring more fashion to Rye,” Guitard said. “I went once to [Fashion’s Night Out in] New York City and it was a zoo, so I decided these girls don’t need to go to New York, they can come to Rye and have a similar experience.”

At Angela’s fashion-lovers can expect free Fashion’s Night Out T-shirts, free tote bags filled with gifts, the opportunity to pop Fashion’s Night Out balloons to win up to 40 percent off at the boutique and mini-makeovers by Kimara Ahmert, a celebrity makeup artist. At Angela’s there will also be a raffle for New York Fashion Week tickets to runway shows by designers Rachel Zoe, Joy Cioci, Mara Hoffman and Project Runway. The store will also have light refreshments and free champagne available.

“A lot of the girls who live here migrated from the city, so this will be a little piece of the city. In New York, fashion people take it so seriously. It’s really not serious, it’s fun,” Guitard said.

In addition to Angela’s, the businesses and restaurants that will participate in Fashion’s Night Out include Nest Inspired, The Running Co., 350 degrees, Woodrow Jewelers, Weezie D's, Walin & Wolff, Euro Laser Services Inc., Frankie & Johnnies, The Open House, Ruby’s Oyster Bar & Bistro, Rhythm In Rye Too, Town & Country Hairdressers, Lola, Financial Spyglass, All Paws, and Lesters.

“A client of mine is [former NBA player] Isiah Thomas’ wife, and he was kind enough to offer himself to be a guest bartender at Ruby’s, so after they shop they can go have a drink with him,” Guitard said.

Angela’s boutique is at 24 Purchase St. in Rye.
