When employed as a therapeutic tool, martial arts can address issues that stem from emotional pain. Newport Academy’s group martial arts sessions give teens an opportunity to work with peers and skilled instructors, in a safe and supportive environment, to gain mental and physical strength and increase their focus, resilience, and sense of achievement. Studies have shown that martial arts can improve self-esteem, self-confidence and self-control, while reducing anxiety, depression, and aggressiveness.
Experiential therapy—including yoga, fitness, adventure therapy, music therapy and culinary therapy—is one of many facets of the Newport Academy treatment program, which also encompasses clinical, academic, and spiritual components. This integrated care provides teens with the skills and tools to live healthier lifestyles.
Newport Academy has several locations throughout the United States, including residential programs, recovery day schools, and outpatient programs for mental health and substance abuse. For more information or to find a campus near you, click here.
