RYE, N.Y. -- Though it's been 15 years since the Sept. 11th attacks, for Rye resident Phil Moyles, it might have well as been yesterday.

The president of Answer the Call, an organization that provides financial assistance and support to the families of NYC police and firefighters who have been killed in the line of duty, Moyles had 300 colleagues of his killed that day.

"September 11th greatly affected my life," he said. "Its anniversary should never be forgotten as it is one of the most important and tragic events in U.S. history."

He does, however, feel immensely proud of the work his organization has done to help alleviate the pain for many 9/11 families. The nonprofit provides more than just financial assistance to the families of first responders; it also provides emotional support and resources.

"We try to offer a sense of ease that we will continue to support them for the remainder of their lives," he said. "The financial assistance, emotional support and continued presence in their lives allow us to be the total package. There is a sense of community and family within our charity, as our widows', widowers' and children can support each other through the hardships of losing their loved ones in such a tragic manner.”

Folks may be surprised to know Answer the Call has been around for 30-plus years. "We saw how important it is to support our fallen first responders and their families before anyone else,' said Moyles.

"Our board members, staff and supporters are passionate and dedicated to our cause and our confident that we can continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of these families and honor the heroes of New York City.”
