New Principal Named At School In Westchester
An elementary school in Northern Westchester will soon have a new principal who says he is dedicated to making sure families are involved in their children's education. Rob Schliessman has been named the new principal of the Kensico School located in Valhalla, according to Valhalla Union Free School District officials. Schliessman will be officially appointed by the district's school board during their meeting on Tuesday, June 6, and will start on Saturday, July 1. Irvington Schools Face Cut In State Assistance In Next Budget
The new state budget for 2018-19 includes about $1 billion in extra funding for public schools, but not all area school districts are winners. In fact, several are big losers of state taxpayer assistance according to this database published by the Poughkeepsie Journal. The state budget's $1 billion increase in school aid brings the total to a record $26.7 billion statewide. Hundreds of Hudson Valley students, teachers and administrators participated in the National School Walkout on Wednesday to call on Congress for tighter gun control laws. Students joined their peers around the nation at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14 as part of the ENOUGH National School Walkout, which is “to protest Congress’ inaction to do more than tweet thoughts and prayers in response to the gun violence plaguing our schools and neighborhoods.” Many schools allowed students to walk out of class for 17 minutes with increased security to ensure the actions were organized and safe.
