Serious Crash Impacts Traffic on Busy Route In Westchester: Developing
A serious crash is causing traffic delays on a busy main route in Northern Westchester, police announced. The crash happened on Route 6 in Somers between Clayton Boulevard and Mahopac Avenue on Thursday, May 2, the Carmel Police Department announced just before 12:30 p.m. Carmel and Somers Police are now directing traffic in the area of the crash. Man Killed After Leading Troopers On Pursuit, Hitting Tree In Westchester: Police
A 66-year-old Hudson Valley man was killed when he crashed into a tree after leading authorities on a short pursuit in Northern Westchester, police said. According to authorities, an incident occurred on Tuesday, April 30, around 3:40 p.m. when New York State Police attempted to pull over a 2019 Nissan Altima on Route 100 in Somers. An iconic statue has returned in a more durable form in Northern Westchester. The statue in front of The Elephant Hotel in Somers known as Old Bet has returned to its post after being taken down in July 2023, Somers town officials announced on Monday, April 22. The beloved landmark had been a fixture in Somers since 1827 when a gilt wood replica of an elephant was installed on iron scrollwork on top of a granite shaft in front of the hotel, which was built between 1820 and 1825 and is now used as Town Hall.
