Former Fire Captain From Westchester Dies At 47
A former volunteer firefighter in Westchester County who eventually became a captain of his department has died. Mamaroneck resident Eugene Doherty died on Saturday, Jan. 7 at the age of 47, according to his obituary. Born in Londonderry, Northern Ireland in 1975 before later moving to Westchester County, Doherty had a passion for being involved in his community and served as a volunteer fireman for the Village of Mamaroneck Engine 40, “Mamaro," his obituary said. 'Critically-Needed': New Nursery School To Open In Westchester County
A Westchester County YMCA has announced a new nursery school that is planned to open next year. The new school, which will serve children and toddlers aged 18 months to 5 years, will open in mid-January 2023 in Mamaroneck at the St. John's Lutheran Church at 122 Fenimore Rd., according to Rye YMCA spokesperson Lisa Tidball. A former employee at YMCA organizations in Westchester and Fairfield counties may avoid prison time after admitting to stealing nearly $200,000 from her employer. Lee Ann Borg, 31, a former employee of the Rye and Greenwich YMCA pleaded guilty in Westchester County Court to stealing $195,157.58 from the Rye YMCA when she was employed. Borg admitted to making personal purchases with her Rye YMCA corporate credit card. Officials at the Rye YMCA are expecting to be fully reimbursed after a former employee allegedly stole nearly $200,000 from the organization. On Tuesday, Feb. 26, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. announced that Lee Ann Borg, a former employee of the Rye and Greenwich YMCA has been arraigned on a charge of grand larceny following her arrest on Tuesday morning for allegedly stealing more than $190,000 using a YMCA corporate credit card. Rye Swimmers Win Westchester/Fairfield League Title, Place At States
The Rye Y Wave Ryeders capped off a winning season on March 18, placing 4th overall out of 40 swim teams at the YMCA State Championships in Buffalo. The Rye team racked up its highest point total ever at the State meet and brought home several individual and team awards.
