Investigation Leads To Auto Fraud Charges For Nine People, Five Businesses In Area
A two-year investigation into an auto fraud scheme in Westchester and the Bronx led to the arrest of nine people and five businesses that are now facing charges for trying to pull a fast one on their customers. “Operation Sledgehammer,” an enterprise insurance fraud scheme that operated in lower Westchester and the Bronx has been taken down, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. announced on Wednesday, Dec. 9. Photos: Injured, Unresponsive Bear Hit By Vehicle Rescued By Responders In Area
A black bear that was injured and unresponsive after being hit by a vehicle was rescued by a team of responders from several agencies. The incident happened in Dutchess County on Thursday night, April 23 on Route 44 in Pleasant Valley. The bear, though unresponsive, had no obvious external wounds and appeared to have been struck by a motor vehicle, state police from the Poughkeepsie barracks said. Pilot Reports Engine Failure Before Helicopter Crash
The pilot of a 1989 Bell 222A helicopter that crashed in the area said the chopper experienced an engine failure causing the crash and for the helicopter to overturn. The crash took place around 12:38 p.m., Saturday, March 30, near 77 Youngblood Road in Bullville, just west of I-87 in the Town of Crawford in Orange County. The six onboard, five passengers, who were celebrating a birthday, and the pilot, suffered minor injuries, Crawford Police said. Driver In Two-Car Crash With Serious Injury Charged With DWI, Vehicular Assault
The 51-year-old driver in a two-car crash that left one person trapped and seriously injured has been charged with driving under the influence. Christopher Smith of Campbell Hall was arrested on Saturday following the crash at the intersection of Little Britain Road and Forrester Road, said New Windsor Police Lt. Michael Farbent. Responding officers found a two-car crash with heavy damage to both vehicles. The driver of one of the vehicles was trapped and in and out of consciousness.
