Car Crashes Into Storefront Of Busy Westchester Market
A car drove into the storefront of a busy market early Thursday afternoon, sending shoppers scrambling in Northern Westchester. The incident took place around 12:08 p.m. when an elderly man drove into the front of Cole's Market at 2147 Albany Post Road in Montrose, said State Police spokesman AJ Hicks. Hicks said the incident is under investigation, but there are no known injuries. The building department is on the scene to check for structural damage. This is a developing story. Man Charged With Shooting, Killing Worker Loading Dumpster In Westchester
An area man has been charged in the March murder of a trash-carting driver. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. announced on Friday that 32-year-old Heriberto Morales of Yonkers has been charged by a grand jury in a seven-count indictment that was released this week. He stands charged of murdering a Northern Westchester man who was working for a private carting company at the time of his death. Five Cats Killed In Westchester House Fire
Five cats were killed in a Northern Westchester house fire that is believed to have started in the kitchen, according to firefighters. Croton-on-Hudson Volunteer Fire Department was called to a house fire on Maple Street around 3:30 p.m. Monday and found the house in flames, with no one at home, the department said. Due to a coordinated, aggressive interior fire attack, the fire was held to the kitchen and a second-floor room, and the neighboring house was saved but did sustain some damage from the radiant heat, the department said. Hundreds of Hudson Valley students, teachers and administrators participated in the National School Walkout on Wednesday to call on Congress for tighter gun control laws. Students joined their peers around the nation at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14 as part of the ENOUGH National School Walkout, which is “to protest Congress’ inaction to do more than tweet thoughts and prayers in response to the gun violence plaguing our schools and neighborhoods.” Many schools allowed students to walk out of class for 17 minutes with increased security to ensure the actions were organized and safe. Man Shot, Killed While Loading Dumpster In Westchester Identified
A man who was murdered Thursday while loading a roll-off dumpster in Westchester has been identified. Timothy Conkling, a 36-year-old resident of Montrose, was shot about 10:51 a.m. Thursday in the area of 342 Ashburton Ave. in Yonkers, said Det. Sgt. Dean Politopoulos. After receiving the report of a shooting, arriving officers found Conkling on the ground in a lifeless state with a single gunshot wound to his head, Politopoulos said.
