Cure For Loneliness? Robotic Pets Going Out To Thousands Of Socially Isolated NYers
Call it four-legged companionship without the need for potty training. Thousands of animatronic pets are on their way to older, socially isolated New Yorkers in an effort to combat what experts describe as a crisis of loneliness. The state’s Office for the Aging (OFA) announced Sunday, June 3, that Rhode Island-based Ageless Innovation is delivering another 4,725 robotic pets and games to elderly adults through New York State’s aging network. A school district in Westchester has announced that a retired former superintendent with over 40 years of experience will be filling in for its current leader, who is out on medical leave. Longtime educator Joel Adelberg has been appointed as acting superintendent of the Irvington Union Free School District and will fill in for Kristopher Harrison, who is out on medical leave, officials announced on Monday, Aug. 28. Alert Issued For Police Sergeant Who's Gone Missing In Westchester
An alert has been issued by police as they attempt to locate an officer who was reported missing this week. Robert Byrnes, age 48, a current Yonkers Police Department sergeant who has recently been experiencing health problems and “could be a danger to himself,” was reported missing on Monday, Feb. 15 by friends and family. Police said that Byrnes was last seen in Yonkers, but could be in the area of Far Rockaway Beach in Queens. Memorial services have been scheduled for the couple killed in a murder-suicide last week at the Westchester Medical Center. The two -- Richard DeLucia, 71, and his wife, Ann Macken DeLucia, 70 -- were residents of Yorktown.
