Students Evaluated, Treated After Chemical Exposure At Middle School In Westchester
Multiple students were treated following a chemical exposure at a Northern Westchester middle school, fire officials said. The incident happened on Friday afternoon, Nov. 15, when the incident was reported at Fox Lane Middle School in Bedford, according to the Bedford Fire Department. Arriving fire crews began isolating and ventilating the affected room while the Westchester County Hazmat team sent a representative to the scene. A staffing shortage at a Northern Westchester school due to COVID-19 has forced a transition to distance learning for the rest of the week. Two new cases of COVID-19 have been reported at one of the largest school districts in Northern Westchester. The Bedford Central School District said it learned of the cases -- one from Fox Lane Middle School and the other at Fox Lane High School -- on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Bedford Central Considers Closing Pair Of Elementary Schools
As student enrollment continues to decline in the Bedford Central School District, officials are considering consolidating their elementary schools, closing two as part of their “long-range facilities plan development.” The district commissioned three demographic studies, which determined that enrollment is on the decline and that each of the district’s five current elementary schools has excess capacity, which is expected to continue to grow. A 23-year-old former school bus driver in Northern Westchester will spend several years behind bars for having sexual contact with a minor and attempting to plan a second sexual encounter with her. Brewster resident Brayan Moscoso Arias has been sentenced to four years in state prison after pleading guilty last year to first-degree sexual abuse following his arrest in May. He had faced a maximum sentence of seven years in prison. A water main break on the Fox Lane Campus causing no water pressure, impacting toilets and all running water, resulted in early dismissal for Fox Lane High School and Fox Lane Middle School students late Thursday morning, Jan. 10. A popular school administrator in Northern Westchester and youth sports coach in Fairfield County has died at age 53. Brian Davidson was assistant principal at Fox Lane Middle School in Bedford who worked in the Bedford Central School District for 20 years. He also served as a guidance counselor during that time. Davidson had been on leave for the past year, according to BCSD Superintendent of Schools Christopher Manno. He died on Thursday, Aug. 16.
