Line Of Severe Thunderstorms Headed To Area
Get set for a new round of severe storms. Late afternoon thunderstorms will once again bring downpours, lightning, gusty winds and possible flooding to the area. The line of storms is moving from west to east with torrential rainfall that may cause localized flooding. (See satellite image above.) Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm, according to the National Weather Service. Wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible with these storms. Storm Knocks Out Power To Thousands In Westchester
Nearly 2,000 Westchester County residents have found themselves in the dark on Tuesday afternoon as severe storms move through the area. Con Edison is reporting 57 outages, which are impacting 1,678 of their Westchester County customers. Nearly 200 NYSEG customers in Northern Westchester are also reporting outages. New Rochelle was among the areas hit the hardest, with 1,161 Con Ed customers reporting outages as of 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. Storms Will Bring Torrential Downpours, Dangerous Winds To Area
We will finally see some relief from the heat after a steamy stretch of days. But not before a cold front will bring showers and thunderstorms to the area on Tuesday afternoon and evening. Expect heavy rain and gusty winds to move through from west to east, starting in the early afternoon. Storms will be capable of producing very heavy downpours which could lead some flooding in urban areas, especially low lying and poor drainage locations.
