Woman Visiting Hudson Valley With Husband Dies After 70-Foot Fall
A 39-year-old woman visiting the area died after falling 70 feet off a cliff at a state park in the region. The incident occurred in Ulster County around 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 22, at Minnewaska State Park in the town of Rochester. New York State Police Trooper Steven Nevel said Nur Aisyah Binte MD Akbar, age 39, and her husband Abdul Rauf Bin Mohd Said, age 41, both of Singapore, were hiking on Beacon Hill Trail when they stopped to take photos at the edge of the cliff. $15 Million Bridge Replacement Projects Complete In Hudson Valley
State officials announced the completion of bridge replacement projects that cost a total of about $15 million in the Hudson Valley. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the completion of the projects to replace the US Route 6 Bridge in Putnam County and the State Route 209 Bridge in Ulster County on Tuesday, June 28. The lowest percentage of hospital employees who have received the COVID-19 vaccine in New York reside in the Hudson Valley. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said that 57.9 percent of hospital workers in the Hudson Valley have received the COVID-19 vaccine, while statewide, a total of 60.8 percent of medical professionals have been vaccinated. The 43-year-old man who attempted to rob an area hospital at gunpoint and proceeded to break into area homes and stole a car while fleeing from police will spend decades behind bars. Ulster County resident Joshua Stuart, of Pine Hill, was convicted at trial on felony counts of robbery, burglary and criminal trespass earlier this year in connection with the incident at Ellenville Regional Hospital in the fall of 2018.
