19: School Board, Budget Votes Delayed
School board elections and votes on district budgets have been pushed nearly two weeks due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order this week regarding the temporary suspension and modification of laws relating to the disaster emergency response to the virus. Irvington Teacher's Suit Over Alleged Student Attack Dismissed
A lawsuit filed by an Irvington Middle School teacher who claimed to suffer permanent injuries following an attack from a student has been dismissed by a state Supreme Court judge. Last week, Justice Lewis Lubell ruled that the Irvington School District was not liable to pay for the injuries special education teacher Clarice Martin suffered last year, citing the fact that they were work-related, stating that the court determined she “failed to state a viable claim against the (district).” Martin had alleged that she suffered “grievous and permanent injuries,” following an incident on March…
