$119M Project To Reconstruct Section Of Major Deegan Expressway Starts A $119 million project to reconstruct a stretch of the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx has kicked off. The New York State Department of Transportation announced that construction has begun on the project in both directions of the expressway between West 161st Street and the Alexander Hamilton Bridge. Former Area HS Football Player Killed Helping Crash Victim A 28-year-old former high school football player was killed while helping victims of a crash on the Cross Bronx Expressway. Jaquan Cesar, a Beacon resident and Poughkeepsie High School graduate, was killed around 1:15 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 11, at the scene of a multiple-vehicle crash on the expressway near Webster Avenue, said the NYPD.
