Seen Him? Police In Westchester Seek Wanted Man
Have you seen him? Police investigators in Yonkers are seeking the public’s assistance as they attempt to track down a wanted man who failed to answer a first-degree criminal contempt charge. The Yonkers Police Department issued an alert on Wednesday for Gregory Tompkins, 46, who was last seen in the area of Oak Street in Yonkers. Tompkins was described as 5-foot-1 weighing approximately 160 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. A weekslong investigation into four separate bomb threats that were called in to a busy corporate park in Westchester led to the arrest of a White Plains man working at the building who allegedly called in the phony threats. The Greenburgh Police Department has been investigating four reported bomb threats that took place at the corporate park at 660 White Plains Road on separate occasions between Thursday, Sept. 13 and Wednesday, Sept. 19, Police Capt. Man Breaks Into Westchester Residence, Forces Himself On Victim, Police Say
A 34-year-old man is behind bars after breaking into a Northern Westchester residence and forcing himself on a victim, state police said. Troopers responded to Henning Drive in the town of Cortlandt for a burglary in progress on Sunday, Sept. 23 at approximately 5 p.m. An investigation found Andrew J. Ortner of Cortlandt entered a dwelling illegally, and forced himself on a victim at the residence. A registered "sexually violent" offender convicted of sexually abusing four young girls while he was a kung fu instructor in Northern Westchester has reported a move into Putnam County. Eight people were nabbed during a child sex sting in which law enforcement and federal authorities posed as minor children online. Ulster County Sheriff Paul VanBlarcum said the arrests, earlier this month, are a result of a child predator identification and enforcement operation in the Town of Ulster. Interim Fire Chief Earns Full-Time Gig In Westchester
A veteran firefighter has been named as the new Chief of the New Rochelle Fire Department. City Manager Charles Strome III announced that Andrew Sandor has been named the new full-time Chief, effective as of Sept. 1. He had served as the department’s interim Fire Chief since former Chief Lou DiMeglio announced he was stepping down on June 29 after more than four decades of service in the city. Man Sentenced For Killing, Burying Friend In Hudson Valley
A 44-year-old man will spend more than a decade behind bars after fatally stabbing a friend who was staying at his Orange County home and burying his body. Christopher Smith, 44, of Newburgh, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter for his involvement in the April 2017 death of William McMahon, 50, on his property. A near yearlong investigation led to the arrest of a group of gang members in Westchester. Eight members of the 150 Clan gang are off the streets, following an eight-month investigation dubbed “Operation: 150 Clan,” which was run by the Yonkers Police Department and investigators from the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office Gang, Firearms and Narcotics Bureau. A 24-year-old man from Westchester is heading to prison after being found guilty for his role in an armed robbery with his teenage cohort. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. announced on Thursday that Yonkers resident Lamont McLean has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for the armed robbery of two men.
