New York State Attorney General Letitia James has become to latest voice to speak out against the recently enacted statewide bail reform laws. As of Wednesday, Jan. 1, thousands of inmates throughout the state were put back on the streets due to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s bail reform legislation, which marked the end of cash bail for misdemeanor and non-violent felony offenders that were previously incarcerated. An NYPD officer from the Hudson Valley who allegedly terrorized an African-American family while in Nashville for a bachelor party has resigned. Rockland County resident Michael J. Reynolds is out of a job after he pleaded guilty to assault and aggravated criminal trespassing after he broke into a Nashville home next to his Airbnb and shouted threats and racial slurs. A popular area pizza shop has been linked to a major methamphetamine and cocaine ring, according to Attorney General Letitia James. New York State Police announced a 168-count indictment charging nine people for their alleged roles in a cocaine and methamphetamine smuggling operation on Monday, Nov. 15. Three people were arrested for alleged cocaine sales after being seen making a deal by members of the Greenburgh Drug and Alcohol Task Force. The incident took place around 11:50 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 350 South Broadway, Tarrytown, said Lt. Greg Budnar. Man Sentenced For Raping Young Teen Girl In Westchester
A 28-year-old man is heading to prison and will have to register as a sex offender for raping a young teenager in Westchester. Bronx resident Jorge Moran-Gaspar has been sentenced to four years in prison followed by 10 years of post-release supervision after pleading guilty to third-degree rape in a case involving a young girl. Police investigators in Westchester are seeking the public’s assistance as they attempt to track down a wanted man. Dan Santos, 27, is wanted by the Yonkers Police Warrant Squad after he was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary and later failed to appear in court, leading to the issuance of a warrant for his arrest. A former prison cook will spend time behind bars after admitting to having sex with an inmate at the Taconic Correctional Facility in Northern Westchester. Garth Trail, 63, has been sentenced to “shock probation,” and will serve four months in jail followed by the remaining 10 years’ probation. One of the two men convicted of killing Pearl River 16-year-old Paula Bohovesky in 1980 who was granted parole has been ordered to stay clear of Rockland County and has been banished to upstate New York. Two teenagers have admitted to their roles in the death of a 15-year-old John Jay of East Fishkill High School student after they attempted to steal marijuana and dragged him along the side of an SUV in the area last year.
