Dobbs Ferry Hosts Pawling in Midweek Test

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – A bruising defense and a powerful rushing game give Dobbs Ferry a decided edge over visiting Pawling when the Eagles host the visiting Dover Thursday at 4 p.m. at Gould Park.

“We have a good running game and our line has been blocking really well,” Eagles quarterback Spencer Avalos said. “We want to improve, stay healthy and win games to prepare for the playoffs.”

Dobbs Ferry (3-1) comes off three strong defensive performances, holding opponents to just three points over three games, including a shutout of Tuckahoe’s usually potent offense in a 40-0 blanking last Friday night. Dennis DeLeon, Brian Gardner, Matt Fata and John Yozzo-Scaperrotta lead the defense.

Quarterback Spencer Avalos is an all-everything offensive threat and he has several weapons at his disposal, including running backs Tim Soave and Eddie Ritch. Yozzo-Scaperrotta and Thomas Fleming are receiving threats.

Pawling (2-2) has scored 153 points in four games for an average of 38 points per game, including a 47-8 victory over Dover, so the Eagles must be prepared to use that shut-down defense to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard.

“Our defense has been strong from the start,” Eagles coach Jim Moran said. “The offense is getting better each time out. Spencer is a great athlete and our sophomore fullback (Tim Soave) is getting more comfortable out there.”
