ARDSLEY, N.Y. The home team showed its offensive punch and strong pitching Wednesday as Ardsleys ten-year-old baseball team defeated visiting Pleasantville 9-0 in the season opener of the Westchester/Putnam Baseball Association summer league.
Henry Bretts, who started for Ardsley, struck out nine batters in four innings and also had a hit for the winners. The hosts also got two hits from Dave Torte and Gabe Smith, and hits from Frank Belarge, Ryan OConnell, Peter Paino, Frank Porco, Mike OBrien and Justin Miller. Belarge and OBrien each drove in two runs. Pleasantville pitcher Jack Howe took the loss but pitched well.
