Students Flock Downtown to Enjoy Lunch Each Day

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Groups of high school students can often be seen walking through the village every day during lunch time and it’s not because they’re playing hooky.  Many local students like to take advantage of the schools’ open lunch policy and go out in the village to grab food.

“I love having the open campus especially because we don’t have a big cafeteria,” said Dobbs Ferry High School sophomore Sean Grogg.  “I think having everyone eating together in the cafeteria would be suffocating.”

Lots of students seem to enjoy the freedom it provides and local businesses are more than happy to oblige the extra surge of customers.

“I think it’s good for all the local businesses,” said Dobbs Ferry sophomore Nate Flaks.  “It’s good food, but you can afford it.”

For some it’s become a routine that they have with their friends during the 46 minute period they’re permitted each day.

“I’ve gone to this place every day since I started high school,” Grogg said while sitting in front of New York Bagel Authority on Cedar St.

It’s not even about the food for some, rather just the chance to get away from school for a bit.

“I always come out, even when I bring my lunch from home I take it out,” Flaks said.

Most importantly, there can be lunch specials seen posted in windows of businesses in anticipation of the students.

“Almost everyone offers deals,” said Dobbs Ferry sophomore William Brosnahan.
