“While working collaboratively within four different city-states, the students partook in a variety of activities that celebrated the arts, culture and history of this ancient civilization,” said Jessica Doherty, a sixth-grade teacher and team leader. “Each activity focused on a different aspect of discovering how this ancient society influences daily life today.”
Working under the sponsorship of the middle school's PTSA, the students baked authentic Greek cookies and worked to create Greek artwork while learning about the music of the ancient society.
During the unit, the students also participated in their own version of the Olympics and studied Greek math.
Greek myths were performed and the students also had the opportunity to engage in an archeological dig created by staff and members of the PTSA.
“Thank you to the PTSA for your support on this very special day,” Doherty said.
