The teenagers competed against 15 drum lines from Ohio, Detroit, Pennsylvania and other locations during the competition, which took place in Oak Park, Mich.
“It was a very powerful experience for the kids, and they really did an excellent job. They practiced for many late nights,” said Terrel Stowers, band director. “At the end of the competition, my speech to the kids was very clear: ‘It’s not about the first-place win, it’s about the impact we leave in a society that matters.’”
“The Marching Cobras gave an excellent performance and we congratulate them on their win in Michigan. This is a major accomplishment and they all should be extremely proud of themselves,” added Dr. Robert Maher, CEO, St. Christopher’s.
