Dobbs Ferry Encourages Students to Walk to School

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Dobbs Ferry School District will kick off its “Walkin’ on Wednesdays” initiative on Wednesday, Oct. 12.  The WOW announcement is geared toward helping promote a healthier lifestyle for parents and kids alike as it includes more physical activity.

“WOW is aimed at increasing the number of children who walk or ride their bicycles to school in recognition of National Walking-to-School Month,” the school district said in a press release.

It also encourages travel to and from school that is safe and more environmentally friendly.  The district said other goals include reducing traffic in the local neighborhoods, reducing congestion at school drop-off points, making it safer for kids to walk to school and promoting neighbors to get to know each other better.

The school district said families should team up with friends and neighbors to walk together to school.  It is noted that younger children should be accompanied by an adult though.  The school district is requesting that parents fill out an online survey to better gauge the number of students walking to school.
