In honor of Tucker’s nearly four decades of service to the students of Hastings-on-Hudson, the high school social studies department invites the village and school communities to join the free lecture.
With recent terror attacks in Paris, Egypt, Beirut and Mali, ongoing civil war in Syria, the rise of ISIS and power struggles the world over, what are the most pressing concerns and strategies of U.S. national security? With his extensive military and national security expertise, Colonel Rauhut will discuss our nation’s role on the contemporary world stage.
Rauhut currently serves as the chief of staff for the Military Staff Committee, deputy directorate global policy and partnerships at Joint Staff J-5. He is responsible for U.S. representation to the United Nations Military Staff Committee as well as providing advice to both the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations focusing on UN peacekeeping issues. He lives in Hastings, with two children attending the high school.
This lecture series honors Tucker, a longtime Hastings social studies teacher and Hastings resident who died in September 2008. He taught in the high school for almost 40 years. He was known for his rigorous classroom, passionate defense of civil liberties and commitment to the Hastings students and the community at large. He taught American history, economics and anthropology. He also founded and served as the adviser to WESTMUNC, the highly attended, annual Model UN conference for Westchester.
In addition, he served as social studies department chair and president of the Hastings Teachers’ Association. This lecture series reflects Tucker’s love of intellectual discourse and his belief in the ability of public education to bring a community together.
