Members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to Central Park Avenue near Palmer Road at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, where there was a report of a head-on collision involving two drivers in the southbound lane on Central Park Avenue.

Both drivers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The investigation determined that a Chevrolet Trailblazer being driven by a 53-year-old Wappingers Falls man was struck head-on by a BMW driven by Yonkers resident Akeem Jamal, who was allegedly driving north in the southbound lanes for more than a mile.

Jamal suffered “extensive” head and bodily images. The other driver suffered injuries to his head and leg.

Police said that at the time of the crash, Jamal had a blood alcohol content of approximately .12 percent.

Following the investigation, Jamal was charged on Thursday, Nov. 14, with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content greater than .08 percent, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, and assault. He was issued a desk appearance ticket and will be arraigned at a later date.
